How to wash a Jellycat: read the care label first
There is no single washing method for every Jellycat. The label on your toy, and its product page, tell you which care applies.
The short answer
Check the care label and product page for your exact Jellycat. Some models allow machine washing; others require surface washing by hand.
Why one method does not fit every model
Jellycat's safety and care page says many products can be machine washed at 30 degrees, while some need surface washing by hand. Its support article emphasises hand or spot care for many toys and notes that texture may change after a first hand wash. Both direct you to the individual product instructions.
So a method that suits one Jellycat is not permission to wash another the same way. The label on your toy comes first.
What Jellycat advises against
Jellycat's safety and care page advises against putting its toys in a tumble dryer, ironing them or dry cleaning them. Use the instructions for your exact item rather than a generic washing recipe.
Reading the label on your toy
| What you find | What to do |
|---|---|
| The label allows machine washing and gives a temperature | Use the settings that label gives, for that toy only. Do not carry them over to a different Jellycat. |
| The label says surface wash or hand wash only | Keep it out of the machine and clean it only in the way the label describes. |
| The label is missing, cut off or hard to read | Look up the product page for that exact model, or ask Jellycat through its support pages. Do not guess. |
| The toy carries a name we embroidered | Read the toy label and ask us about the added embroidery before choosing a washing method. |
| The label disagrees with a general guide online, including this one | Follow the label on your toy. |
A care note to keep before you wash or ask
Write these four things down, or keep them on your phone. They make a care question about one toy quick to answer.
- The exact model: the name and size as they appear on the label or on your order, for example Medium or Small.
- The label wording: copy down the care line on the label, or take a photo of it for your own reference.
- Whether it is personalised: yes or no, and where the name is stitched.
- Who to ask: Jellycat for the care of the toy itself; Baby Butter for the name embroidery we added.
If the toy has a name on it
For a personalised piece, read the original care label and ask Baby Butter about the added name before washing. Share the model and where the name is stitched so the question concerns your particular toy. Read how our embroidery works in Jellycat personalisation, or browse personalised Jellycat.

Quick answers
Can you put a Jellycat in the washing machine?
Some, not all. Check the product page and sewn-in care label for your exact model before choosing a washing method.
Can you tumble dry or iron a Jellycat?
Jellycat's safety and care page advises against tumble drying, ironing and dry cleaning. For anything else, follow the care label on your exact toy.
What should I check on a personalised Jellycat?
Read the toy's care label, then ask Baby Butter about the added name before washing. Do not assume a general washing guide answers every question about a personalised piece.
